He may have sailed from Hamburg, Germany and Southampton, England on the ship “Saxonia,” arriving in New York, New York on December 29, 1864.
In 1870 he and his son Fred and Fred’s wife and three children lived in Red Wing, Goodhue County, Minnesota. A domestic servant from Ireland lived with them. In 1880 he and Fred’s family lived in Mankato, Blue Earth County, Minnesota. In 1885 he and Fred’s wife and seven children lived in Red Wing.
