Gertrude and her parents and three siblings sailed from Antwerp, Belgium on the bark “Infatigable,” arriving in New York, New York on July 11, 1843. She became a naturalized citizen.
As of 1900 she had had four children, of whom three were living.
In 1910 she was a widow; she lived with her daughter Veronica in Avon, Lorain County, Ohio. They lived there in 1920 as well.
