She arrived in the United States in 1898. She and her husband were married by the Reverend Cyril Mohr at St. Peter Catholic Church in Cleveland, Cuyahoga County, Ohio (Information from their Marriage Record).
The reference to her residence in 1912 on Ancestry.com is incorrect since that woman was a widow.
Her husband’s World War I Registration Card dated Sept 12, 1918 indicated that his wife Cathrine DIederich was his nearest relative.
The 1920 federal census taken on January 12 of 1920 reported that her husband was a widower.
There were two persons named Catherine Diederich who died in Cuyahoga County in the 1910’s. One died on May 9, 1917, the other on September 18, 1917.
Notes for Peter Joseph (Spouse 1)
Source: Barbara Schichtel on Ancestry.com; and Michigan, Marriage Records, 1867-1952 for Wayne County.
He lived with his parents in North Ridgeville, Lorain County, Ohio in 1900. He lived in Cleveland, Cuyahoga County, Ohio at the time of the 1910 census. In 1920 he and his children lived in Cleveland with his sister Mary and a roomer. In 1930 Peter and his wife Alexia lived in Cleveland with his daughter Constance and her daughters Roberta, Wilhelma and Alvern. In 1935 and 1940 Peter, his wife Alexia,
her daughters Roberta, Alvern and Wilhelma (Billie Giebner) lived in Cleveland. In 1940 Billie’s 2-year-old daughter Barbara J. Giebner lived with them.
The marriage license application in April of 1920 reported that Peter Joseph was a widower having been married once.
When he married in Detroit, Wayne County, Michigan in 1925, both he and his wife were residents of Cleveland. Peter reported have been married twice before, and Mary A. McDonald James [i.e., Alexia] reported having been married once before.
He appears to have adopted Alexia’s children.
His death information comes from a letter that his wife Alexia M. Diederich testified to. However the information she gave in the letter about his birth year may be wrong. The 1900 census gives his birth month as December 1885.
