Matthias Schmitz and his wife Eva Krebsbach and their two children Nicholas and Peter Schmitz sailed from Antwerp, Belgium on the “Alice Tainter.” Their son Joseph was born at sea. They arrived in New York, New York on August 25, 1856.
In 1860 Matthias and his wife and children lived in Marshfield, Fond du Lac County, Wisconsin.
