Notes for Matthias (Spouse 1)
Source: K-J Tonner’s Kelberg data file; and Ancestry.com—New York, Passenger Lists, 1820-1957.
Matthias and his wife Agnes sailed from Antwerp, Belgium on the “Alice Tainter” and arrived in New York, New York on August 25, 1856. Their son Peter and his family, as well as their daughter Eva, her husband Matthias Schmitz, and their family traveled with them. There were three persons named Krebsbach who were listed directly after Matthias and Agnes on the passenger list. They were Johann, aged 12, Susanna, aged 29, and Gertrud, aged 22. Susanna and Gertrud were identified as having the occupation of servant. Their relationship to Matthias and Agnes Krebsbach is not clear.
Another Krebsbach family, that of Christian Krebsbach and Eva Katharine Schloesser, traveled on the same sailing of the “Alice Tainter.”
In 1860 Matthias and his wife and three others, Johann, Nicholas and Anna Krebsbach, lived in Taycheedah Township, Fond du Lac County, Wisconsin. Anna may have been Nicholas’ wife.
