Source: K-J Tonner’s Kelberg data file; and Ancestry.com—New York, Passenger Lists, 1820-1957; and www.findagrave.com.
Jakob and his wife and children Margaretha, Anna Maria, Christina and Michael sailed from Antwerp, Belgium on the ship “Mount Vernon,” arriving in New York, New York on August 12, 1846.
In 1850 Jakob and his wife lived in Forest Township, Fond du Lac County, Wisconsin. Their census entry listed: Josab Cremer, age 49; Mary, age 47; Margaret, age 14, Anna Maria, age 12, Michael, age 5, and John, age 2. All were born in Germany except John who was born in Wisconsin. On ancestry.com their surname is listed as Josab (and then interpreted as Cremer or Kraemer) because the census enumerator reversed the order of Jacob’s name to make it Cremer Josab. All of the rest of the family was “dittoed” as having the surname Josab.
In 1860 Jacob and Anna Maria lived in Taycheedah Township, Fond du Lac County, Wisconsin with seven sons, all but one born in Wisconsin.
In 1870 Jacob and his wife “Mary” lived in Taycheedah with five sons and one daughter. Their children’s entry was misread as having “France” as their surname.
In 1880 Jacob and his wife Anna Maria lived in Taycheedah with their son Christian.
