Peter and his father, brothers Johann and Matthias, and aunt Maria Elisabeth Haerig sailed from London, England on the ship “Gladiator,” arriving in New York, New York on August 7, 1846.
In 1850 Peter lived with his father and brothers Johann and Matthias in Black Rock, Erie County, New York. In 1860 Peter lived with his father in Mount Carroll (?), Fairhaven Township, Carroll County, Illinois. Peter was a member of Company P, 34th Illinois Infantry in the U.S. Civil War. He joined the Army in September of 1861 at Camp Butler, Springfield, Sangamon County, Illinois. At that time he was a farmer in Mount Carroll, Carroll County. He reenlisted as a veteran.
In 1870 Peter and his wife Lydia lived in Fairhaven with their two children. On July 25, 1879 Peter filed a claim for a Civil War pension on the basis of being an invalid. In 1880 Peter and his wife and five children lived in Monroe Township, Butler County, Iowa. In 1900 Peter and his son Wesley lived in Coldwater Township, Garfield County, Oklahoma Territory. In 1910 Peter lived In Hobart Township, Garfield County with his daughter Kate, her husband Charles F. Krauel, and their two children.
