Johann Toll and his wife Maria Gilgenbach and their seven children sailed from Antwerp, Belgium on the “Alice Tainter.” They arrived in New York, New York on August 25, 1856. Their children’s names and ages were Hubert—24; Anna M.—20; Maria C.—12; Mathias—7; Anna C.—6, Michael—5, and Jacob—1.

In 1860 she lived in Avon, Lorain County, Ohio with five of her children—Hubert, Martha(?), Maria Catharine, Michael and Jacob.
In 1870 she lived in Avon, Lorain County, Ohio with Michael and Jacob Toll as well as a farmer, Peter Ferber (?), age 47 and Margaret Ferber (?), age 78, all from Germany. It appears that Peter Ferber owned a farm on which Michael and Jacob Toll worked.
