Adam sailed with his parents and five of his siblings from Le Havre, France on the ship “Waverly,” arriving in New York, New York on August 28, 1847. He was reported to be two years old.
His tombstone lists 1845 as his birth year. The 1850 federal census reported that he was five years old.
In 1870 he and his wife Anna and son Matthias lived close to his parents-in-law in North Ridgeville, Lorain County, Ohio. In 1900 he lived in North Ridgeville. Allen Huelskamp has July 8, 1906 as his date of death.
Adam died of appendicitis.

In 1910 she lived with her daughter Cecilia in North Ridgeville, Lorain County, Ohio. The census reported that she was widowed, the mother of eight children of whom four were living.
