This is a copy of the birth record of Paul Pauly from the archive in Mertloch, Rheinland-Pfalz, Germany, near Muenstermaifeld. According to Albert's translation of the French, it states that "...on April 29, 1809 at 4 pm Anton Pauly made his appearance to us, burgomaster and civil official of the village of Gering, municipality Mertloch, Kanton Polch, Rhein-Mosel Department, 50 years old, farmer, being resident in Gering, who presented to us a child of male sex, born April 29th at 2 pm, of him, the declarant, and Luzia Musch, his wife, and he declared that he wanted to give him Paul as first name; and at forementioned declaration and presentation, taking place in the presence of Louis Krechel, 43 years old, farmer, being resident in Gering, and of Pierre Munch, 56 years old, farmer, being resident in Mertloch, the father and the witnesses have signed with us the present birth records, after it was read out to them."
