In 1850 he and his children, Elizabeth, Ann, John and Martha lived in North Ridgeville, Lorain County, Ohio. The census reported that all of his family was born in Prussia. He was apparently widowed. His name was spelled “Kline” on the census. The family of Nicholas and Eva Klein lived next door, and the family of Matthias Diederich lived close by. His son John married Gertrude, the daughter of Matthias Diederich.

She does not appear in the 1850 census.
