In 1850 he lived in Avon Township, Lorain County, Ohio with his wife. In 1860 he lived in Avon with his wife and six children. In 1870 he lived in Avon with five children and a 70-year-old woman from Ohio named Margaret Hohe. His name was spelled “Clinkson” in the censuses in 1860 and 1870. His brother Georg Joseph’s family lived next door to Michael’s home in 1850 and 1860. In 1880 he lived in Avon with his sons Joseph Anton, Anton Joseph and John Baptista and his daughter Caroline. In 1900 Michael lived with his son Joseph Anton in Avon.
Three of his sons married daughters of Joseph W. Baldauf and Theresa Schmidt.
