He and his wife and six children sailed on the Hammonia from Hamburg, Germany on April 19, 1862. They sailed to New York, New York State. The ship’s register gave the ages and residences of the passengers as well as their occupations. Farmer was listed as his occupation. His family name was spelled Wilhelmy on the register. Other passengers on the ship were Johann and Joseph Emmerich and Anna Lauxen, all from Illerich.
In 1870 he and his family lived in Avon, Lorain County, Ohio. In 1880 he and his wife and their daughter Emma lived in Avon.
The 1870 census gives Bavaria as the birthplace of Peter, his wife Emma, and the first six of their children.
