Notes for John Alten
He immigrated to the United States in 1845 and became a naturalized citizen. In 1860, 1870 and 1880 he and his family lived in Avon, Lorain County, Ohio. In 1900 he and his wife lived in Avon.
Three of John’s and Susan’s sons became Catholic priests.

Susan and her parents and siblings traveled from London, England on the ship “Diadem,” arriving in New York, New York on August 12, 1846.
The 1900 census reported that she immigrated in 1845. She gave birth to eight children of whom five were living in 1900.
In 1850 she lived with her parents and siblings in North Ridgeville, Lorain County, Ohio. In 1860 Julia and Joseph Pitts lived with the family of John Alten and Susan Pitts in Avon, Lorain County.
