The census in 1900 reported that he had immigrated in 1848 and became a naturalized United States citizen. However the U.S. Naturalization index reported that August Utschig from Germany had arrived in 1855 and was naturalized on October 11, 1860.
In 1860 “August Uchig” lived in Calumet Township, Fond du Lac County, Wisconsin with his wife Catharine. In 1870 he and his wife Gertrude lived in Brothertown, Calumet County, Wisconsin with her daughter Anna and their daughters Theresa, Maria, Juliana and Anna. Albert Utschig, probably Gustav’s brother, and his wife Anna and their five children lived nearby. One of Albert’s children was a boy who was born in about 1866 who was named Anton. That Anton married Christina Lauer. In 1880 August lived Chilton, Calumet County, Wisconsin with the family of Peter and Mary Ann Wirth who operated a hotel.
