He immigrated to the United States when he was 26, arriving in New York on June 3, 1840. His ship, the “Republic,” sailed from Bremen.
In 1855 he lived in Forest Township, Fond du Lac County, Wisconsin. In 1860 he and his family lived in Marshfield Township, Fond du Lac County. In 1870 he and his wife and three of their children--Joseph, Mary, and Barbara, lived in Marshfield. In 1880 he and his wife lived in Saint Cloud Village in Marshfield Township. The township of Marshfield includes the village of Saint Cloud that was incorporated in 1909 and the village of Mt. Calvary, incorporated in 1962.

In 1900 she lived with her son Joseph and his family in Marshfield Township, Fond du Lac County, Wisconsin. She had had seven children, of whom five were living in 1900.
