He left Hamburg on May 2, 1868 on the ship “Bavaria,” and sailed to New York, New York.
In 1880 he and his family lived in Avon, Lorain County, Ohio. In 1900 and 1910 they lived in Sheffield Township, Lorain County. His sons John and Frank lived with their parents in 1910.
He was known as Joseph John Emmerich.
His name was written “Emerick” in the 1880 census, “Emriek” in the 1900 census and “Emmerick” in the 1910 census.
