Notes for Christian Gilles
Source: Records of St. Maximin Catholic Church in Klotten; and Klotten Family Book by Stephan Buch (2007).
According to Buch, Rev. Christian Conradi, chaplain “in the mountains” [i.e., in Landkern] was one of his baptismal sponsors.
Barbara Lauxen was his other baptismal sponsor. She may have been Barbara Esper of Esperhof who married Johann Peter Lauxen of Kavelocherhof about 1660. She was the sister of Christian’s father Johann (Matthias) Esper. Christian became the villicus (estate overseer) in Esperhof.
Notes for Anna Maria (Spouse 1)
Anna Maria was the wife of Christian Gilles, villicus (overseer) of Esperhof. After Christian Gilles died, the next villicus of Esperhof, Peter Muennich, was also married to a woman named Anna Maria. It was common for the role of villicus to pass from one man to another when the first man’s widow married the second man. Thus I have assumed that Peter Muennich married Christian’s widow Anna Maria.
Some time after the death of Peter Muennich, his step-son Johann Anton Gilles became the villicus of Esperhof.
Notes for Anna Maria (Spouse 1)
Anna Maria probably was the widow of Christian Gilles who died in 1706 in Esperhof and had been the villicus (overseer) there.
