In December of 1915, Wojcek Simontkowski petitioned the Probate Court of Lorain County to have his name changed to George Albert Sherman. He used the name George A. Sherman.
In 1913 George was a porter aboard the ship Joseph Wood. In November of 1913 George survived a vicious storm as the ship traveled from Buffalo to Fort Williams, Canada with a cargo of coal.
In 1917 he lived in Elyria, Lorain County, Ohio. His birthdate is from his World War I and World War II draft registration cards. In 1920 George lived in Elyria with the mother and brother of his deceased wife. In 1930 he lived in Elyria with his wife Grace V. and daughter Vivian G. Sherman. In 1935 and 1940 he and his wife and children Virginia and Russell lived in Elyria.
He resided in North Ridgeville, Lorain County and died in a hospital in Elyria.
