In 1860 he lived with his parents and seven siblings in Avon, Lorain County, Ohio. In 1870 he lived with his parents and six of his siblings in New Bavaria, Pleasant Township, Henry County, Ohio. In 1880 he and his wife and their three children lived in Marion Township, Henry County, Ohio. In 1900 he and his wife Gertrude and seven of their children lived in Hamler Village, Marion Township. In 1910 he and Gertrude eight of their children lived in Marion Township.
The findagrave site reports that his children were born in New Bavaria, Henry County but the censuses reported that the family lived in Marion Township, Henry County.

In 1900 and 1910 the federal census reported that she had had 12 children, eight of whom were living.
The 1910 federal census was dated April 18th. Gertrude died on May 10, 1910.
