In 1867 the U.S. City Directory for Cleveland listed a Frank Pifer living at 87 Coutland St. as a laborer. In 1868 he was listed as a watchman. In 1872 he was listed as a watchman and as a machinist at the C.C. C. & I. Ry. shops. In 1874 and 1875 the directory listed a
Frank Pfeifer, machinist for the C.C.C. & I. Ry. shops. He lived at 87 Courtland St. Both the 1874 and 1875 directories listed Frank Pifer of the same address who was a watchman at C.C.C. & I. The 1874 directory also listed a Frank Pifer, Jr. at the same address who was a laborer and the 1875 directory listed Frank Pifer, Jr. as a machinist at C.C.C. & I. Ry.
