Johann and his wife Anna Gertrud immigrated to Sheffield, Lorain County, Ohio in September of 1842. He became a naturalized citizen on March 19, 1855.
Shortly after immigrating, they moved to Cleveland, Cuyahoga County, Ohio.
In 1850, 1860, 1870 and 1880 Johann J. Rothgery and his family lived in Cleveland, Cuyahoga County, Ohio. In 1880 they lived on Oregon St.
Johann’s father immigrated to Ohio as did his two sons by his previous marriage, Matthias M. Rothgery and Peter Rutgeri.
