Johann’s brother Josef also is buried in St. Elizabeth Cemetery in Harper, Keokuk County, Iowa.
He immigrated in 1862, departing from Hamburg, Germany on April 22, 1862 on the ship “Hammonia,” and arriving in New York, New York State. His brother Joseph, the Peter Wilhelmi (or Wilhelmy) family, and a woman named Anna Lauxen, all from Illerich, were on the same ship.
He became a naturalized citizen.
In 1900 Johann lived in Lafayette Township, Keokuk County, Iowa with his wife Elizabeth and his brother Joseph. In 1910 he and his wife lived in Lafayette Township with their daughter Katharine, Katharine’s husband Peter Weber, and their children Elizabeth (age 20), Benedict (age 16), Marie (age 13) and Victor (age 6). All of the children were born in Iowa.
