Additional information about the family of Maria Gertrud Pauly Reitz was provided by Barbara Riegelsberger.
She was known as Gertrud Reitz. In 1870 she lived with her husband, three step-sons and two children and a 15-year-old domestic servant named Elizabeth Rothgery in Cleveland, Cuyahoga County, Ohio. In 1880 she was a widow living on Jersey Street in Cleveland with five children—Frank, Mary, Albert, Carl, and Peter. In 1900 she lived on Jersey Street with her sons Charles and Peter, daughter Mary, and two boarders, Paul Diederich and Aurelia Bohrer. In 1910 she lived on West 29th (?) Street in Cleveland with her daughter Mary and her sister Margaret Pauly.
The 1900 census indicates that she had had five children, all of whom were living, and that she had been married for 35 years.
In 1905 she sued her children, step-children and their spouses and three other relatives. She wished to sell property that was part of the estate. The defendants (her children, etc.) claimed she had mismanaged the estate. She won in the end.
