He immigrated to the United States in 1853.
The 1860 census gives Arthur Minnis as his name. In 1870 he lived with his parents, his wife Gertrude, and his daughter Mary in North Ridgeville, Lorain County, Ohio.
In 1880 (census page 16) he and his family lived in North Ridgeville, in the same area as the families of Matthias Diederich and Christian Thome. His mother and his 10-year-old niece Anna Weber lived with Anton’s family. His name was written “Minnish” in the 1880 census. In 1900 he and his family lived in North Ridgeville, very close to the family of his sister Katherine and her husband Joseph Myers. His mother, Anna M. Minnich, lived with the Joseph Myers family.

The "Family Record of Joseph Myers" says that since women of marriagable age were scarce when Anton was ready to marry, Anton's father, John, wrote to a friend in Germany "asking for his daughter and promised a home and land, adjoining his own."
Gertrud’s year of death is taken from the records for St. Peter Cemetery, North Ridgeville, Lorain County, Ohio. Her name was also spelled “Wilhelmy.”
She was the granddaughter of Anna Margaretha Klee, the sister of Anton Klee.
She immigrated in 1868. In 1870 she lived with the family of her father-in-law and mother-in-law in North Ridgeville, Lorain County, Ohio, along with her daughter Mary.
As of 1900 she had had 13 children, of whom 12 were living.
She resided in North Ridgeville and died at Memorial Hospital in Elyria, Lorain County.
