He came to the United States with his family in 1852 and became a naturalized citizen. In 1860 he lived with his parents and siblings in Sheffield, Lorain County, Ohio. In 1870, 1880, 1900 and 1910 he and his family lived in Wabash Township, Jay County, Indiana.
The family farm was located in Jay County on the current state highway 67 about 3 miles west of the Indiana-Ohio state line. They had several kilns for making bricks. Ancestry.com transcribed his name as Aickolas Mumick in their web version of the 1870 census. The census pages are out-of-order. The entries for his children Anton and Gertrude are two pages after those for the rest of the family.
In 1910 he lived with his second wife, Katharine, and her daughter Celia Barnes.
Nikolaus died of pneumonia.
