In 1863 when he registered for the civil war draft he lived in Cleveland, Cuyahoga County, Onio. In 1870 he and his wife and daughter Lucy lived in Amherst Township, Lorain County, Ohio. His name was spelled Pouly in the 1870 census. In 1880 he and his wife lived in North Amherst, Lorain County with their daughter Lucy C. and son Clark.
The Ohio, Deaths report was the source of his middle name and his date and place of death. His year of death was obtained from the inscription on his tombstone.

Carolyn gave birth to two children, both of whom were alive in 1900. The 1900 census gives her age as 55 but her birth year as 1854. It should have been listed as 1845.
